Skoolbo

Hi Room 3,

I hope you are all having a great holiday.  If it's raining and you would like something new to do on the computer, I have just signed us up for Skoolbo.  Click the link here or up the top of the blog.

When you first start Skoolbo will test your level for reading and maths and then the games you play will be right for you.

I have sent everyone an email with their username and password for Skoolbo.

Camp Writing

We have been writing about "A Moment in Time" at camp.

I can see I can hear I can feel by Danica

I can see the bikes all in the trailer
I can hear the the waves crashing on the rocks
I can see the the bridge when I drive past
I can hear the bikes behind me on the gravel
I can feel the the stones flicking up on the bike
I feel happy, excited.

Jumping off the rocks by Grier

I can see the deep blue water splashing
I can hear the air crackling
I can taste the freezing river running
I can smell the fresh summer air
I feel lucky

I can see, I can hear & I can feel    by Hayden

I can see Trent in front of me speeding like a rocket
I can hear the wind blowing in front of me
I can see the dark dark tunnel in front of me
I can hear the wind swaying in the trees
I can feel my hands slipping off the handlebars
I feel very very tired

Logan

I can see cars driving on the road
I can hear the strong wind in the trees
I can see birds flying high around the bush
I can hear birds squawking
I feel happy

I can see & hear & feel by Rebecca

I can see the cars on the road
I can hear the wind in the tree
I can see the sweet blue river
I can hear the gravel under my wheel
I feel happy

Bike Safety

Hi!

Today we played an interactive bike safety game as part of our topic.  You can try it yourself:

We are thinking hard about all the things we need to do and know to keep safe when cycling.

Welcome to 2014

Hi Room 3 children and families

I hope you all had a good Christmas and summer break.  :-)  We are in for a busy term, with camp in Week 5 at Waitawheta, details about this will come home soon.

SWIMMING

We swim every day at the moment as our P.E. is learning to swim and be confident in the water.  Please make sure your child has their togs.  If they are not swimming due to medical reasons, they need a note - otherwise they will be given something from school to swim in.

HOMEWORK in Room 3

The main homework is daily reading.  Usually your child will bring a book from school to read to you or quietly to themselves if they are a fluent reader.  Please sign their notebook to show that they've read.  If they haven't brought home a book or poem, they can choose a book from home to read and this can be written in their notebook.  Reading on a regular basis is a very important part of becoming an able reader.

Spelling lists for each week are posted to this blog - see the links at the top of the page for the lists for each spelling group.  Your child should soon know which group they are in this year!  We practise lists in class and it is very helpful if children can practise at home too.  To help with this, the lists are "clickable" and will take you to a page where you can practise the specific words with games.

Here is a great list of 75 ideas of fun ways to practise words.

Learning maths facts by heart is also important and I will note in your child's reading diary the facts that they currently need to be learning by heart.  Here are some ideas.  There are lots of games and apps online that will help too.

If you have any questions or would like to see me I am usually around after school for a quick chat, otherwise  please email me or ring the school office to arrange a time.
